| “I joined Toastmasters in 2002 because my manager encouraged everyone in his department to consider it. I found Toastmasters a great place to be encouraged as one tries to improve in public speaking and leadership skills. The more I put out the effort to improve, the better I got. It’s a great place to learn.
As I moved into club leadership, I found that I wasn’t alone, but all former officers were there to help with whatever I didn’t know and ensure the project was completed properly. At every level of serving I have found nothing but encouragement and help from fellow Toastmasters. We all just want the best for each individual and club. I also found Toastmasters a place to network with fellow co-workers (I was in a corporate club with no outside members). I was able to interact with people personally where I had previously had only a professional relationship with them. This actually strengthened our professional relationship. Since retirement I have found continuing as a Toastmaster is an opportunity to help individuals get started in Toastmasters or with improvements to specific skills. I have also worked with struggling clubs and helped them improve their status as a club by attracting new members and improving on their meeting quality. Toastmasters may not be the perfect place for everyone, but you won’t know unless you give it a try.” – Jim Prestwood Distinguished Toastmaster |
